About Us

The Barony of the South Downs is the official name for the Atlanta area chapter of the Society for Creative Anachronism, a Middle Ages and Renaissance reenactment / living history group. Members of the Barony range across all ages, and include students, young people, families with small children, as well as those who have been in the SCA for many moons. Members share a common interest in recreating the historical time periods pre-17th century, including fighting in armor, martial combat, mounted combat, costuming, cooking, dance, archery, bookbinding, leatherwork, embroidery, ceramics, calligraphy, illumination, wood carving and diverse arts and sciences.

History

According to the online SCA Ordinary and Armorial, the name for the branch of South Downs was first registered in 1973 via the Kingdom of Atenveldt, and then registered as a Barony via the Kingdom of Meridies in 1986.
