Fighter Practice

Heavy Weapons and Rapier Combat

Both heavy weapons and rapier combat practice for the Barony of the South Downs is held every Sunday* at Blackburn Park off Ashford-Dunwoody Road in Atlanta, Georgia (for equestrian practices, please see the Equestrian Practice page).

• Heavy Weapons: 11:00 a.m. - ??
• Rapier Combat: 11:00 a.m. - ??, earlier by appointment

* Practices will not be held when the temperature goes below 40° Fahrenheit or during rain. Practices also may not be held on weekends when there are major kingdom events or Baronial events.

Directions to Blackburn Park

From the North via I-285

1. Take your best route to I-285.
2. Continue on I-285 to Exit 29 Ashford Dunwoody Road.
3. Take Exit 29 Ashford Dunwoody Road and head South on Ashford Dunwoody (if you are coming from the east, this will be a left turn, if you are coming from the west, this will be a right turn).
4. South on Ashford Dunwoody Rd for 1.4 mi, you will see Blackburn Park on your left.
5. Turn left into parking lot just across (and a little before) Cambridge Shopping Center (Woods Dr NE).

From the South taking 400N ($0.50 toll)

1. From I-85 N, take the 400 N split right at GA-400 N, go 5.9 mi.
2. Take exit 4A to merge onto I-285 E towrd Greenville/August, go 2.0 mi.
3. Take exit 29 Ashford Dunwoody Rd.
4. Turn right onto Ashford Dunwoody Rd (heading South) and go 1.4 mi., you will see Blackburn Park on your left.
5. Turn left into parking lot just across (and a little before) Cambridge Shopping Center (Woods Dr NE).

From the South taking I-85 N (no toll)

1. Head north on I-85.
2. Take exit 91 toward US-23/GA-155/Clairmont Rd/Decatur.
3. Merge onto I-85 Access Rd NE, go 0.1 mi.
4. Turn left onto Clairmont Rd/GA-155 N/US-23 N.
5. Continue on Clairmont Rd 3.5 mi.
6. Turn left onto Peachtree Industrial Blvd, go 0.2 mi.
7. Turn right onto Johnson Ferry Rd, go 0.8 mi.
8. Continue onto Ashford Dunwoody Rd (Johnson Ferry curves into Ashford Dunwoody), go 0.3 mi.
9. Turn right into parking lot just across (and a little after) Cambridge Shopping Center (Woods Dr NE).
